Your personal info just got less personal

Why are sites like spokeo.com allowed to steal your personal info and sell it off? Who gives them the right to do it especially if you are not subscribed to their site? Looks like it's time to play whack-a-mole to keep private information private.

Someone needs ot be held accountable for this type of theft. I call it theft because they are taking the information without your knowledge or permission.
When I first heard about it the first thing I did was go to snopes for confirmation and sure enough it is TRUE!
It's bad enough they show the general info to the public, but they charge a per month fee to get all your info and it can be inaccurate. This is just what we need... high tech thieves that list people in your area ripe for the picking because of false information on income and house value.
You can remove your public info by request but honestly; this should be an opt-in scenario not an opt-out where the burden of proof is placed squarely on the person who has information displayed on their site.
This can be a gateway to home invasion pure and simple and it needs to be stopped!
