Storm 2: the Blackberry Blacksheep

My first smartphone was a Blackberry Curve 8330 from Alltel. It was a learning experience for me coming form a "dumbphone" but it was/is a great phone nonetheless. I got the chance to do an early upgrade and after using and "mastering" my curve as well being a crackberry addict; I decided to go for the Storm2 since it was the new BB kid on the VZW block. I will admit that I did eye and try out the DROID in the store, but I was blinded by the berry.

So today blizzard announces:

Battle.net Mobile Authenticator Now Available for More Phones
The Battle.net Mobile Authenticator, an optional security tool to help prevent unauthorized Battle.net account access, is now available for a wide range of mobile phones and carriers in the United States and Europe. Previously available only for the Apple iPhone, the Battle.net Mobile Authenticator is a mobile application that generates a one-time password to use in addition to your regular account ID and password when logging in to a Battle.net account or any merged World of Warcraft accounts.

Visit mobile.blizzard.com to purchase the application for 99 cents, or to download Blizzard Entertainment ringtones for $1.50 each and wallpapers for 99 cents apiece. iPhone and iPod touch users can download the Battle.net Mobile Authenticator for free from the Apple App Store. So I think "cool I can now get it for my Blackberry Curve 8330". I go to the page to find out not only is my phone not listed but my carrier Verizon isn't listed either.. WTF??!!??

Reworking the numbers

They always go in 3's.. this was a bit inaccurate in my last post.
We have news that another member of entertainment has gone at too early an age. So let's recap the cycle

David Carradine
Ed McMahon
Farrah Fawcett

New cycle:
Michael Jackson
Billy Mays

Rumor has it that the great Walter Kronkite will be the third in the new cycle..

You are missed
You are not forgotten

Rest In Peace

They always go in 3's

The rule of 3 really hit hard and fast this week.

Ed McMahon: 6-23-09
Farrah Fawcett: 6-25-09
Michael Jackson: 6-25-09

You will be missed.

Rest In Peace

Transformers revenge of the money hungry sequels

Transformers Revenge of the Fallen was a huge let down to this fan of the original show as well as the last movie. Some of the characters that were not in the first movie yet in the sequel seemed to be thrown in for the sake of adding another cool CG effect.
Some characters seemed to be stereotyped in a bad way.. not knowing how to read, coming from "da hood", and childish(yet very adult oriented) humor.

**** SPOILER ALERT ****

Don't read any further if you don't want to know anything about the movie!!

Olde Frendz

I have been finding some friends from my younger years thanks to Facebook. I look forward to attempting to catch up on lost time with them.
I wonder how much everyone has changed or if the old saying still holds true: "The more things change; the more they stay the same."

I want my BBC!!

Why is it so hard to get COX to add BBC America to on demand?

Fire in the Sky?

It appears that something interesting last night around 9:30 PM in our area as well as stretching as far south as North Carolina and as far north as Delaware. A bright flash in the sky followed by a loud boom which actually shook some buildings. Local news is eating it up but so far there has been no official reason as to why this event happened.

Some have described it as a white ball of light with a tail while others have claimed it was a fireball. What makes it even more interesting is that not everyone felt the "boom" even though they may have heard it.

Wonder what happened in our area? Will we really know?

Can you find me now?

After Verizon gobbled up Alltel back in 2008, Alltel customers are still waiting for something good to trickle down from the parent company.
Let's look specifically at the GPS function on the Blackberry 8330 that Alltel offers. While the latest OS version (4.5.0.127) by RIM enables the GPS functionality for the Blackberry Maps, according to Alltel they have requested that the option be disabled by default with no way to activate it unless you pay an extra $10/month to use Telenav.
Verizon did something similar at one point with their VZNavigator app, but back in Dec of 2008 Verizon opted to allow their Blackberry customers the ability to use blackberry maps with GPS functionality without having to pay extra for the VZNavigator.
So can anyone out there fathom why the new underling, Alltel, isn't following in the footsteps of it's parent company? Is it the power of the dollar(can't really cal it almighty anymore in this economy)?
There are rumors abroad that an update of the OS(4.5.0.131) actually enables this for Alltel users. But wait, didn't Alltel claim it was disabled per their request to RIM?
I wonder if contacting RIM and asking if such an agreement exists between Alltel and RIM will shed any light on this very interesting situation?

**the rumor appears to be true according a few blackberry forums but as with anything in this world YMMV(your mileage may vary)**

2 WoW or not 2 WoW?

So what does one do when World of Warcraft doesn't WoW you anymore?
I have found myself at a crossroads, no I'm not in the barrens, about WoW. I want to keep playing but it is becoming stale.
The nerfing of the DeathKnight class has all but removed anything remotely heroic about it. Yeah you can start at 55 but that's about it once patch 3.1 hits the servers. I liked the idea of a class that was considered heroic, better than the normal classes in all aspects. It seems blizzard's idea of heroic and my idea are now different.
The content I really can't say is lacking but when you get to 80 without hardly touching any of the new content it's kind of a bore afterward. Yes, you roll in gold for doing all those untouched quests but really, unless you are out to get mass amounts of gold with virtually nothing to show for it quite frankly sucks.
After setting my DK aside to level my hunter, I found that the biggest hurdles is getting over the level 70 hump. It feels like forever to get to 71 and little less than that to get to 72 but once you hit 73 the levels seem to fly on by. I dread thinking about leveling my other toons and that results in them sitting there doing nothing.
The community for WoW has seen it's fair share of asshats and it seems they have come back with a vengeance. I can understand having to "fight" the opposing faction for mining and herb nodes but having to do it within your own faction is a little ridiculous at best.

I do love the game which is why I have been playing since Nov. '04 but I wonder if I have overstayed my welcome and need to catch up with old "friends" like City of Heroes/Villains and Anarchy Online(at least i can play free)? I refuse to go back to Asheron's Call unless Turbine can find a way to reboot that franchise with a better version.

Ever Wonder??

Why do we drive on parkways and park in driveways?
Why is it called a hot water heater when you are actually heating cold water?
Why do we turn down the music when we are driving around looking for an address?

Can I fill out an application?

Gone are the days of actually filling out an actual paper application for most businesses. Our wonderful tech know-how has enabled us sit in our comfy chair and type it out on the interweb!!
Gone are the days of getting up before the crack of dawn, jumping int he shower and wearing an interview outfit.
Gone are the days of asking for that application in your best professional voice.
Gone are the "sorry we can't hire you" letter(s); hell most places won't even send you a "sorry we can't hire you" email. They just leave you hanging on to the misconception of "no news is good news".
What a great way to start the day!! crawl out of bed at the crack of noon, stumble over to your computer and sleepily peruse the online career sites, want ads, etc.
You've come a long way baby!! Now where's my rent?!

We're looking for experience ...

but what if you have no experience? You're willing to learn but they aren't willing to train.. I mean really how is one expected to get a job when most places hiring want someone experienced?
You can't exactly force them to hire you.. though it would be nice to be able to do that.. "You will give me this job and train me to do it properly!!" umm yeah.. how about you contact the genius in h.r. and tell them to put "experience required" in the damn ad next time!!
