E3 2010

Ahh E3, how I love and loathe you simultaneously.
A lot of good announcements came out and yet a lot of yawn worthy news came as well. Let's dive in for my take on the Electronic Entertainment Expo.

Let me get the boring things out of the way first.

SONY - The best you could do was make jabs at Nintendo and Microsoft. You tried to wow everyone with the Move but fell short in my opinion with the caveat that you will need the Playstation Eye in addition to the Move for the best possible experience. Let's break this down: Playstation Eye: $39.99, Move controller: $49.99, and the Move Navigation controller: $29.99 for a grand total of 119.97.. wow! But wait there's more!! $99 can get you a bundle that includes the eye, controller, and game but no navigation controller!! So now we have to shell out 129.98 but hey we get a game... blah.. I'll pass on this.
The only thing that piqued my interest was the Twisted Metal franchise coming back, but it's not enough for me to want to get a PS3.

Nintendo - The house that Mario built needs some remodeling. No new Wii console for true HD gaming.. BOO! No real titles that make me go "Wow". Instead we get resurrected games.. Donkey Kong Country and Kid Icarus.. really? Mario gets another sports game.. yawn.
Instead the highlight of their announcements focused on the 3DS.. you can now play 3D games on the new DS without 3D glasses but you can't use the top screen for interaction only the bottom.
The kicker for the 3DS was when a parade of women came out with one in their hands for people in the audience to try out for a limited amount of time and the units were attached to the ladies via a tether from the unit to their belts.. HAH!

Microsoft - I did own a Wii but not anymore! Microsoft blew everyone out of the water with the announcement of a slimmer, quieter, and smaller XBOX 360 Elite. This bad boy comes with a $299.99 price point and 250GB hard drive as well as more USB ports and an AUX port for the Kinect.
They also showed of the Kinect's abilities which in my opinion made the Wii a thing of the past!
If that wasn't enough the older models of the 360 have been reduced in price by $50.
The icing on the cake for Microsoft's announcements was that everyone who was there for their presentation got a brand new XBOX 360S! Man I wish I was there for that.. oh well.

I have to say E3 2010 was a success for Microsoft and a mediocre event for Nintendo and Sony. I can't wait to see what E3 2011 will bring.
